Top Ten World Travel Destinations For Vagabonds

Top ten world travel destinations lists are pretty easy to find on the internet. There are lots of them too. Top ten world travel destinations for families, top ten travel destinations for adventure, top ten world travel destinations for business, etc. I figured it was time to throw out the ultimate top ten world travel destinations list. Without any further ado, I introduce the Top Ten World Travel Destinations for Vagabonds. These are the top ten places where you can live cheap, travel easily, and move along whenever the mood strikes you.

1. Bohol, Philippines
2. Atlantic Coast of Morocco
3. Baja, Mexico
4. Sumatra, Indonesia
5. Southern France
6. U.S Pacific Northwest
7. Argentina
8. Eastern Turkey
9. Grenada, Spain
10. Laos

You’ll notice that there are regions, cities, and even countries listed. That’s because some places offer more than others and some places are just too fantastic to miss in your vagabond travels. For example, Bohol in the Philippines is just one of 7000+ islands, but it is filled with so many waterfalls, the chocolate hills, historic buildings, and gorgeous beaches that it stands out. Not to mention most of Bohol is still cheaper than neighboring Boracay or Cebu. There were also many places that didn’t make the list because they were close to those that did. For example, I didn’t add British Columbia because it adjoins the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The Atlantic Coast of Morocco is huge and offers surfing, kite boarding, exotic Moroccan flavors, and plenty of room to roam. Grenada on the other hand is a historic Spanish city filled with amazing monuments and cool laid back people. Baja, Mexico brings you great Pacific surf and plenty of Mexican culture without being as high pressure as other parts of Mexico. Sumatra, Indonesia is huge and has a much lower population density plus volcanoes, orangutans, and jungle. Argentina is simply wonderful, cheap and beautiful. Modern and traditional. Eastern Turkey offers you a look at historical ruins, Islamic culture, and all for a very moderate price. Laos is one of those places that you just have to visit. The people of Laos might be the kindest in the world.

Walking, Talking, World Travel Guide?

When travel writers think about the world, I’m sure their brains are like one big world travel guide. No wonder they never stop traveling, they can’t get enough stories. There is always something out there in the universe that is waiting to offer them a great experience, to write about their hard-earned stories. How do they do it if they don’t get paid for their honest reviews, and many of them sleep in hammocks, the floor, hostels… is it all worth it? What do they do if they have children, how do they travel with them?

Many travel writers are passionate, enthusiastic people who couldn’t get enough of being a little child and learning about things and how they work… and just the world in general. Many have babies along the way on their journey and many still think about it. Does that mean they should stop? Or do they keep moving on, what ever the answer is, I’m sure they would have a lot of shares on the side before they encountered their journey. That would be the back-up plan, otherwise back to their hometown they go. Their income is usually generated in an interesting way, as they do not get paid for writing. They would survive off the houses they have leased out, or usually internet marketing. If you use a little common sense I’m sure everyone would be traveling, but that is what people are not doing these days, from too much stress. Life is actually very simple.

Travel writers are often offered free accommodation for them to inspect a certain location and provide an honest feedback in return. In this business, honesty is the key. Whoever can write the most honest and reliable story wins the race. Not every business would obviously provide this option as it is usually the confident ones, who know for a fact that their establishment do their best to accommodate everyone with a happy and welcoming approach. Who would want to be inspected to prove they are not living up the expectation to please their customers? Travel writers are a world travel guide, so they still would get a bad story no matter how much you avoid them.

World Travel Statistics – Understanding the Numbers

World travel statistics can be extremely confusing when you don’t know exactly what you are looking for. Are you looking for the number of travelers who visit a particular country, city, or region? Do you want to know how much money people spend as they travel to different parts of the world? Maybe you are interested in finding out the number of people who use airlines to travel the world versus the number of people who use cars or other transportation for their travel and sightseeing.

The key is to know what you are looking for and then to go to the right source. Many of the major travel industry magazines and publications offer yearly statistics about countries, how much they cost to visit, the average length of stay, total number of visitors, and specifics about climate, activities, disposition of the locals, and much more.

When I am looking for world travel statistics, I usually start with the CIA world facts web pages. These offer you a nice overview of a country including the population, industries, major religions, and other cultural factors. In addition you can learn about the dangers travelers may face when visiting these places. The next place I visit is Lonely Planet, because they offer a more specific overview geared towards tourists and travelers of the world. The third stop is the Thorn Tree forums where I can find specific experiences about specific countries.

World Travel: Enlarge Your World

World travel will change your life! Over fifteen years ago I got my first passport and began my journey abroad into the unknown. At that time I was going to Russia, the former Soviet Union. Imagine my first trip outside of the USA was to the communist stronghold of Russia in 1992, a year after the iron curtain came down. Yet neither Gorbachev nor Reagan could remove old mindsets that had been imbred for centuries in the former Soviet Union.

I recall going down into the Moscow subway which is a mile below the earth. It was as if I was going down into hell itself. While the New York subway was shocking, the Moscow subway was frightening and morbid. Never had I been so far beneath the earth.

Once aboard the subway system I noticed the stern look on all of the faces of the locals. One elderly lady in particular looked particularly disgruntled. When she looked at our happy group of young Americans it apparently infuriated her all the more. It was then at the height of her displeasure that this old grandma tried to kick me. I guess I had (as she saw it) invaded her space in more ways than one.

My Year Of World Travel

When I reviewed my bucket list, I realized that multiple travel destinations were included. In fact, there were so many that I combined them into a worldwide travel experience. I use the word experience rather than vacation because the journey lasted for an entire year. My retirement blessed me with free time and many working years provided the financing.

My journey began in England and included visits to Stonehenge, London, and several castles in Northern England. I then visited Scotland, where I got to see wildlife like osprey and other seabirds. Then, it was on to Wales and Ireland, which had some breathtaking scenery and some excellent pubs. I was already impressed and I had not even seen the rest of Europe.

In Paris, I visited the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Sorbonne, and the Arc de Triomphe. I strolled along the Champs-Elysees, feeling on top of the world. While in Paris, I enjoyed some of the best food I had ever tasted and took a boat tour of the Seine River. After leaving Paris, it was on to Rome, which absolutely took my breath away. This is one city that I will definitely be returning to in the future.
